NOAA Science Aquarium Trip!

Alana Rounds-Jussaume with a Kemp's Ridley Turtle

Last Thursday, August 5th, we took a trip to Little Sippiwissett Marsh in Falmouth, on Cape Cod, to do some specimen collecting at low tide.  We caught some toad fish, pipe fish, a horseshoe crab, grass shrimp, blue crab, a green crab, calico (lady) crabs, and a bunch of other little creatures!! After the collecting we went to the Aquarium and saw a seal show. The seals were a female named LuSeal and a blind male named Bumper. It was amazing all the things he could do even though he can’t see. After the show we went inside for our tour. A lot of the fish looked creepy but I saw the striped burr fish which I did a power point on for the kids at the Boys & Girls club.  It was cool seeing them up close. We also found out that this Aquarium has the baleen from the Blue Whale we have here named KOBO. This was pretty strange considering we have the skeleton on display here we should have the baleen too. After our tour we went down stairs to the holding tanks and saw and touched an endangered species of sea turtle called Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles. They had four of them and they were SOOOOOOO GORGEOUS!!!! It’s a shame that these turtles are endangered. After all that, we ate then headed back home after we ate lunch. It was a pretty fun day!!!
